Menopause Support Project

Empowered to empower women through every stage

Breaking the silence on menopause

The Menopause Support Project is an ambitious initiative addressing a critical health gap for African women living in Germany and Europe. Menopause affects 50% of women yet remains shrouded in silence — especially within African communities. This project provides culturally relevant education, support, and healthcare navigation.

Our mission: to break the silence around menopause in African communities through education, advocacy, and community support, while addressing healthcare disparities that leave African women underserved and overlooked.

African women often experience menopause differently — with symptoms starting 2–3 years earlier, lasting longer (10+ years vs 6.5 years), and often more severe. Yet only 15–20% receive treatment compared to 40% of European women. This project aims to change that reality.

Voices

From the community

"I thought I was losing my mind. The hot flashes, mood swings, sleepless nights — I suffered for three years. When I found the support group, I cried from relief. I wasn’t alone. The health ambassador helped me find a doctor who listened, and now I’m on treatment that works. This project saved my life."
— Amina, 48, Berlin
"In my culture, we don’t talk about these things. I was ashamed and confused. Through the workshops, I learned menopause is natural and nothing to hide. Now I help other women in my community break the silence too."
— Grace, 52, Frankfurt
"The ambassador helped me navigate the German healthcare system. She came to my appointment and helped me advocate for myself. I finally got the respect and treatment I deserved after years of being dismissed."
— Fatou, 50, Hamburg
